[Caminol10n] Localization Application

Hi.

I've been testing Localization Suite a bit since my last mail.
It *works*.
Meaning: you need to manually add all the files which should be
translated and then merge them with the old translation files.
The big problem: you don't really see a status of the translation, so
you have to manually check which strings have been translated and
which not. Or if you really have all files of the application you want
to translate, because Localization Suite doesn't "extract" the files
out of an .app directory.
So Localization Suite doesn't seem to me as the proper application...


I read over the Mozilla localization pages.
Mozilla Translator is written in Java and completely designed to work
with xul based applications.
Frist thing: I haven't written a single line of Java code yet.
Therefore I don't know how much work it will be to implement support
for Cocoa programs. And second: the web page mozillatranslator.com is
down including the management/project platform.

The L10nZilla ( http://l10nzilla.mozdev.org ) offers such a platform,
but you need an own web-server.

I was thinking of such a web platform, too. Not for translating the
application, but for an overview, management of the files and so on...
A cvs like management (probably with cvs or svn underlying).

Hasn't the Mozilla project a platform running like that?
Am I too blind to find it again?


While testing several programs this afternoon, I came to the
conclusion perhaps we should write our own application or at least
platform, if there's a need for you, too.
In the last mail I threw away this thought, but now I think I'll step
back from that decision.

I'll write a post on http://cl10n.rwx.it an sum up my thoughts of such a system.
Perhaps you (not limited to Marcello) could add yours or experiences
you've made over the last years.

And of course add further programs, preferably licensed under a open
source license.
