Hi everyone,
The release notes for Camino 1.6.5 are now ready for translation
(attachment https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/attachment.cgi?id=346982 on
bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=463074 ).
The Firefox/Gecko release is scheduled for Tuesday; we're obviously
running a little behind this time around, but we'd like to try to
ship on Thursday, so please try to have your translations to Marcello
as soon as you can.
(Also, I mentioned this to Marcello the other day, but I wanted to
note it for everyone, too: because of the requirements of software
update, we can't simply replace the existing .dmg with a new one that
includes a late release notes file any more, so once we ship, you'll
have to wait until the next cycle for any updates.)
Marcello, we'll try to get a 1.6.5 candidate build ready late this
weekend or on Monday, depending on our availability.
I also have some news (finally!) on the localization of strings that
we get from Gecko in Camino 2.0. This weekend I hope to submit a
patch that includes all of the Gecko .properties files as .strings
files for translation (bug
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=394105). This is a
pretty significant chunk of new strings, so you'll probably want to
get started on them as soon as possible. (You might be able to
leverage existing translations done by the Firefox/Thunderbird
translators in some cases, but not all of the files are shared/have
identical strings, so you'll want to verify the translations in any
case, and of course get them in Cocoa formats).
Unfortunately, we still haven't been able to come up with a solution
that works properly for the Gecko .dtd files (which are used in
[x]html files like the error pages and about:plugins). Those files
aren't covered by the override mechanism that Gecko provides for
.properties, so all of those strings still appear in English. I'm
not sure that we'll be able to find a solution in time for Camino 2.0
(bug https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457290).
We are aiming to get most, if not all, of the string and nib changes
for 2.0 in before the next release (beta 1), but we may do a beta 2
or choose an arbitrary date post-b1 for a string freeze, like we did
for 1.6. I'll try to provide updates on 2.0 developments as they
happen, schedule permitting.
Thanks again for all your work!
Smokey
