Hi everyone,
At today's Camino meeting, there was a proposal introduced for a new
schedule for Camino 2.0. The proposal treats the just-released
Camino 2.0b3 as "almost string frozen", with the final l10n freeze to
come soon in an arbitrary nightly build once bug
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=391076 is fixed. Under
this proposal, the final release would then come in about three weeks
after that nightly, as we polish off the last bugs and website
updates.
The reasoning driving this proposal is that, at this point, Gecko
1.9.0 has become stable enough for Camino that not shipping the
existing benefits of Camino 2.0 (both application features and Gecko
improvements) to users outweighs the benefits of the unfinished
features we'd be waiting on under the existing plan.
As part of our evaluation of this proposal, it would be very helpful
to hear from every l10n team about their status on Camino 2.0
translations. Your status will affect not only our decision on the
proposal but also, if the proposal is adopted, what sort of Camino
Multilingual release accompanies the English-only release (if only a
few languages are ready, shipping a simultaneous Camino Multilingual
may not be the best option).
Is your status:
* Have done no work on Camino 2.0
* Have done some work on Camino 2.0, but have not had a complete
translation at any point
* Have done a complete translation of Camino 2.0 Alpha 1
* Have done a complete translation of Camino 2.0 Beta 1
* Have done a complete translation of Camino 2.0 Beta 2
* Have done a complete translation of Camino 2.0 Beta 3
* Something else
Also, I know it's the traditional European holidays season, so if you
or your team are about to be on holidays and won't be able to work on
Camino for the next {two weeks|month|two months}, that would also be
useful to know.
Again, this is only a proposal at this point, but it is one that we
are evaluating seriously, so your information is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Smokey
