It was accidental.  I have talked to some developers about it on IRC,
but I haven't filed a bug yet, though I will.

The problem is that the main thread ends up waiting on a lock if the
other thread does much of anything.  Hopefully there will be a way
around this.

An alternative solution would be to use some better mechanism for
launching external processes, as that is all that the multi-threading is
needed for in conkeror, though Mozilla doesn't currently really provide
such a mechanism.

I believe for now, the best version of xulrunner to use would be a
1.9b3pre nightly from around 2007-12-21.
