Not really worth the effort IMHO. There are more important issues to
worry about.
- C code is simpler and probably more reliable, and maybe more secure,
then relying on Perl and Perl libraries.
I vote we keep the C code, unless it becomes too complicated to
maintain. Seems unlikely.
