I have downloaded TB 2.0.0.4, but then I read so many postings about
prolems when upgrading 1.5 to 2.0 that I do not dare to install. For
example, it seems like the TB2 install does not recognize my existing
1.5 install and therefore I lose my settings and existing mail boxes
etc. Not something I care to experience....
So I updated 1.5 to the latest available instead.

I installed Thunderbird and enigmail last year in order to have a system
available during vacation times when I am not connected via ADSL (just
an analog modem). My ordinary system is too demanding on bandwidth...

Anyway I still do not know what to do with the xpi file I have manually
downloaded. You mention "install over the existing one" but not *how* to
do this.
I am a Windows person and usually one just executes the downloaded
install file and it runs, but xpi is not a recognized executable
extension on my WinXP-Pro SP2 system.

On the Enigmail web page there is a link to installation but in fact it
only deals with installing GPG itself, not enigmail. At the end it
states that now it is time to install enigmail and the link brings one
to the download page again. There is absolutely nothing I can find that
describes *how* to install enigmail itself....

I did not realize I had 0.94.3 because in Thunderbird it is listed as
0.94.0, maybe I ran an update earlier and this screwed up the display of
the version? I really don't know.

Maybe I shouldn't bother, my existing enigmail is probably good enough...
