Specifically, which package of GnuPG 1.4.7 did you install? The GPG4Win
1.1.0/1.1.1 releases are known to have problems working with Enigmail.

My favorite source, but I'm biased. I cowrote it.

I've found it best to test new installs at the command line.

  gpg --version

and

  gpg --list-secret-keys

should tell you if GnuPG is installed and correctly configured. You mentioned
prior experience, did you generate new keys or transfer existing keys?

Try sending yourself a signed mail. If Enigmail doesn't ask for your passphrase,
something is amiss with your setup. Also try looking at the message source (View
--> Message Source or CTRL-U), if OpenPGP processing took place, it should be
visible in the source. If signing is working properly, then move on to testing
encryption.

The OpenPGP --> About OpenPGP menu item will identify the Enigmail version as
well as GnuPG' gpg.exe's location if operating correctly.

OpenPGP --> Preferences. Make sure 'Display expert settings' is checked. Click OK.

OpenPGP --> Debugging OpenPGP --> Display Console. If Enigmail & GnuPG are
correctly installed and configured you will see something similar to:

The console window will also display any error messages as you work with Enigmail.
