I am confused by this response but confess that I'm often confused :-) I
don't use Portable Thunderbird, just the plain garden variety
Thunderbird supplied by Mozilla. That version specifically gives you
the choice when setting up a new account to choose between Gmail and a
generic email account. If you choose Gmail, many of the variables
including server addresses and ports are filled in for you. It
presupposes a pop3 account. If you want IMAP, you must select the
generic email account option.
I have used Thunderbird with Gmail for a long time and never have
installed any of the extensions mentioned.
