[Enigmail] Problems with some special characters

After a couple of failures, I checked my antivirus settings, and found
it was checking my outgoing messages too... I disabled that feature
(since I am sure I am not spreading viruses), and I hope this time the
problem is solved for good (I am also using utf-8). I am not really sure
about how to set up thunderbird to use utf-8 by default, so I am
selecting that character set each time I compose a new message....
