[Enigmail] Paperkey problem

Using windows I have used paperkey with my secret key as such

    paperkey --secret-key \Home\GPG\secring.gpg --output printthis.txt

However, when I try to recompile my key with

    paperkey --pubring \Home\GPG\pubring.gpg --secrets printthis.txt
--output secretkey.gpg

and reimport it to my secring, I get the following error.

Key without self-signature was detected
(This key is not suitable for encryption)

What am I doing wrong, I notice this comment in the paperkey output

    # Repeat fields b through e as needed to cover all subkeys.

but there is not explanation.

Please help.
