You can edit an installed script now, just not in a way that GM
directly supports;

With Aaron's most recent patch, a user script doesn't pollute the
global namespace at all, unless they specifically set a variable using
window.foo = bar.

There's been some discussion about showing which scripts ran and which
altered the DOM upon injection.  It's on the list, bug 9574.
