Another way to do this is with a @lastmodified attribute.

As Bill points out, the problem with hashes is that given two
different hashes there's no way to tell which is "newer" (and in
theory "less broken").

Using dates (or a Unix timestamp :P) might help get away from Aaron's
complaint -- that these things are intended to break all the time and
don't really have "releases" -- and help reinforce the temporary
nature of a working user script.  "This allmusic fixer was written in
2003?  It'll never work on the current site!"
