Yes, sure.  And I solved it like this:

     midTab=gBrowser.addTab("about:blank");

     myBrowser=gBrowser.getBrowserForTab(midTab);
     myBrowser.loadURIWithFlags ( 
"chrome://mid/content/mid.xul?"+window.content.location.href ,
                                   
myBrowser.webNavigation.LOAD_FLAGS_BYPASS_HISTORY );
     gBrowser.selectedTab = midTab;
