They're saved locally.  GDS scans portions of the filesystem on your
computer's hard drive for files that it knows how to index.


BTW, the latest version of GDS features official support for Firefox,
so I probably won't roll out the Slogger profile customized to be
GDS-friendly.  I will, however, roll out the new features used to
support that profile.

On the Filters configuration page of the Options dialog, there's a
box labeled "Block URL if host (server) is in the following list". 
Add "gmail.google.com" to that list.
